The Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park has a lot of different species of live butterflies and it claimed as the largest butterfly park in the world. It also interviewed by the Discovery Channel before. Of course, it’s not surprised that Malaysia as a tropical country has over thousand species of butterflies. This butterfly park has only few hundred species of butterflies, but it’s already sufficient to attract visitors to come over here.

它有个英文名叫Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing(学名: Trogonoptera Brookiana),是马来西亚的国蝶。

I like the black butterfly with tooth-shaped electric-green markings on the wings. Its head is in red colour. It is called Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing (species name: Trogonoptera Brookiana) and is the national butterfly of Malaysia. During 19th century, it’s found in Sarawak and named after James Brooke who was the first Rajah (means King) of Sarawak.

This butterfly can only be found in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. It can be seen nearby the river and waterfall in the forest. However, it’s a rare species and has been declared as endangered species that needs to be protected by authority. Hence, foreign visitors are not allowed to bring the specimen out of Malaysia although it can be bought in the souvenir shop.

There’s also a pond with Japanese koi fish in the park. Visitors can buy fish feed for the colourful koi fish. Besides, there’s a pond with Alligator Snapping Turtle, so don’t put your hand into the pond. There are also aquariums with small fish and Long Neck Turtle. Of course, how not to include the pupa.

At the exit, there’s a gallery to show information about butterfly, and also the specimen of butterfly, moth, and some other insects. What surprise me is that the gallery also shows scorpion and some rare insects in live. I think it’s a good place for children to understand the butterfly world and to look insects.

After the gallery, it’s the souvenir shop. If you are not a big fan of butterfly or insect, you can come out from the park within 1 hour. Of course, butterfly photography is exception.

交通:

Transportation:

  1. No direct bus to KL Butterfly Park, has to take bus and alight at Kompleks Dayabumi, or Masjid Negara, or Bird Park, and then walk to the Butterfly Park. Bird Park is the nearest and Kompleks Dayabumi is the most far away.
  2. RapidKL bus numbers B101 or B112 that used to stop at Kompleks Dayabumi have been suspended after RapidKL revamped its bus routes in December 2015. Hence, visitor can take either the free GoKL bus or the expensive KL Hop On Hop Off bus.
  3. GoKL bus is a free bus service. It has 4 routes, with 4 different colours (red, purple, blue, and green) painted on the bus to differentiate the bus route. Get on the red colour GoKL bus that runs from Titiwangsa LRT station and end at Titiwangsa LRT station too. It’s a circular route and has stops at Chow Kit monorail station, Dataran Merdeka, Kompleks Dayabumi, Kuala Lumpur KTM station, and Masjid Negara. Get off at Masjid Negara and walk about 15 minutes to Butterfly Park.
  4. KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus is designed for tourists. It stops at Bird Park that just 7 minutes walking distance from Butterfly Park. KL Hop On Hop Off bus is a good deal for solo tourist who wants to visit many tourist spots in a day or two. Though the bus ticket is not cheap, it’s still cheaper than taxi.
  5. KTM commuter: Alight at the Old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station and walk towards Masjid Negara. The Butterfly Park is located right behind the Masjid Negara. It will take about 20 minutes.
  6. LRT: Get off at Pasar Seni Station and walk to Pejabat Pos Besar or Kompleks Dayabumi, take the underpass to Masjid Negara. It will take about 25 to 30 minutes to walk to butterfly park.
  7. Of course, you can take taxi or self drive. There’s a small car park in butterfly park, no more than twenty parking lots.
  8. If you plan to walk around the Perdana Botanical Garden (or Lake Garden), I recommend you to make use of the electrical tram service, adult MYR2, children MYR1, ticket is valid for a day.
